Prince William County's designated rural area, better known as the Rural Crescent, was incorporated into Prince William's Comprehensive Plan in August of 1998 in an embattled exchange of ideas between citizen activists, county planning staff, and the development community. In the 12 years since the Rural Crescent's inception, the county population has grown exponentially. The image of Prince William County as a sleepy bedroom community has evolved. However, any attempts to change this 80,000 acre rural area in the comprehensive plan have largely been rebuffed by the Board of County Supervisors and the area has remained fairly protected.

Is this the right path for Prince William County and is it serving its original purpose? Has our rural heritage been protected? What does the future hold for the Rural Crescent? Will it continue to be protected or will it open up to suburban growth?

Please join us for a spirited discussion about the past, present, and future of the Rural Crescent.
